In 1996 Lem’s Pizza was opened by Mark Lemon.
A lot of people ask where the name Lem’s Pizza originated. Since “Lemon’s Pizza” for obvious reasons didn’t sound right. It was decided to go with Mark’s school nick name of Lem, and hence Lem’s Pizza was born.
Just out of college and at the age of 22, Mark returned to his hometown and started kicking around the idea of opening a pizza shop in Fredericksburg. With the help and advice of a family friend that owned a pizza shop, the idea was able to become a reality. Lem’s Pizza had a small and humble beginning. Mark was given the opportunity to set up a small take out only operation in the back corner of the Fredericksburg Market owned by his parents at the time.
After a year and half of getting his feet wet and figuring out the pizza business, the building that is the current location of Lem’s Pizza became available. Mark was able to purchase this property. And, after putting in a lot of elbow grease into gutting and remodeling the entire building, the new and expanded Lem’s Pizza was opened in 1998. Several other modifications and additions have been made to the current location over the years.
From the beginning Lem’s Pizza has continually strived to provide a high quality product combined with great friendly hometown customer service. Unlike most of the big pizza chains, that hometown feel and touch is evident when you first walk through the door at Lem’s. The walls are covered with local memorabilia, both historical and current. Most customers are known by name and treated like friends and family.
Lem’s Pizza is very thankful for the patronage and support it has gotten from the Fredericksburg and surrounding communities over the years. For that reason, Mark and Lem’s Pizza have always tried to be very involved in and giving back support to the community. This has been done through volunteering for various events and organizations, as well as sponsoring numerous local sports teams and events.
If you are not already part of the Lem’s Pizza family, we look forward to meeting you and earning your business.
